Cacao is a source used to facilitate a healthy spiritual and mental life for centuries by ancient civilizations.

Cacao beans have a bioactive chemical called theobromine in them which is like caffeine, but the stimulating effects of theobromine affect blood flow, the heart and whole cardiovascular system instead of the nervous system, this means no crashes and you dont feel on edge or shakey. It is a nice gentle long-lasting energy.

In addition to the theobromine energising, you without those side effects, you can feel more alert, aware, and focused. Theobromine can also help with boosting short-term improvements in cognitive function.

Cacao is a rich source of antioxidants along with heart-protective and anti-cancer properties. Within the plant, there is potassium, copper, iron, zinc, phosphorus, and magnesium which all contribute to cardiovascular health, anti-inflammatory effects, and general functioning of the whole body.

This wonderful plant also contains anandamide which is a fatty acid neurotransmitter that binds to cannabinoid receptors in the brain and body stimulating a sense of happiness, blissfulness, and overall wellness. The word Ananda in Sanskrit means “bliss” which is why it is often referred to as the "bliss molecule". Anandamide is the transmitter that gives you the great feeling after a workout aka runner high often feeling like a ‘’rush of good energy’’ Thus cacao can fill your soul with joy and excitement.


The numerous properties in Cacao have been shown to help balance blood sugar levels and increase the blood flow to the brain which helps create more mental agility, awareness, clarity, and focus. Cacao also contains tryptamine and tryptophan, two amino acids that can help increase serotonin, a chemical transmitter that promotes positivity, good mood, and happiness. Consumption may also help release dopamine the feel-good hormone and endorphin; phenylethylamine, both of which soothe the symptoms of anxiety, depression, and emotional stress. A natural antidepressant effect can be boosted by cacao because of all these chemicals.

Flavonoids in cacao can help improve the systems that activate thought. This was shown in a study published by Hypertension with ninety elderly individuals suffering from mild cognitive impairment. Cacao is a Superfood

Raw cacao is considered a superfood containing monounsaturated fat, cholesterol-free saturated fat, vitamins, minerals, fibre, natural carbohydrates and protein. 

Cacao beans have 54% fat (the cacao butter), 31% carbohydrates, 11% protein (arginine, glutamine and leucine), 3% polyphenols (flavonols and proanthocyanins) and an abundance in minerals such as magnesium, pottasium, iron, copper, zinc and phosphorus.

Cacao has more calcium than cows milk, 40 x the antioxidants of blueberries and is a great source of fiber.

Although cacao is safe for most of us some people should take extra precautions for themselves before eating or drinking cacao. Cacao is contraindicated with anti-depressants including some SSRIs and all MORI anti-depressants.
